DEVA: In the Hindu and Buddhist teachings, a Deva is a divine being, a god; a Devi is a goddess and a Devata is a demi-god. The word "deva" literally means "light being" and these beings are also sometimes described as such. In the West, the word "deva" is also used to describe a spiritual being or an elementary spirit, who has a special responsibility in nature. In Findhorn, Scotland, where a small spiritual community achieved an exceptional growth of their vegetables and fruits, Dorothy MacLean communicated with the nature spirits, such as the Pea Deva, the Spinach Deva and the Tomato Deva. She learnt that the landscape and the elementary spirits also had their spiritual guides. Back |
